Matthew’s Block celebrates the 2nd generation of our family farming on Pritchard Hill. The vineyard was a childhood playground for Matt who has gone on to study viticulture and has worked in all aspects of our business.
Our 2009 offering shows a distinctive cherry profile and typifies the concentrated wines that hail from the rocky slopes of Pritchard Hill. Blended from Clone 7 and Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine’s dark cherry, currant, cassis and sweet oak tones carry
form the nose through into the palate. The intense fruit is framed by a very sturdy and age worthy tannin structure, a reflection of our rugged vineyard site. Winemaker Jeff Fontanella extended barrel aging to 30 months to add a touch of creaminess to the length and finish of this beautiful wine.
Our 2009 Matthew's Block Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested by hand on September 28th. Brix ranged from 26.8 to 27.9 . The wine spent 20 days on the skins before
resting for 30 months in French oak. We bottled just 125 cases.
